Solaris is a nine-storey concrete building of 133 rental condos at 1030 rue des Francs-Bourgeois in Boisbriand. It sits a one-minute walk from the Faubourg Boisbriand, with highways 13, 15 and 640 right at hand.
We wanted condo-quality living, for rent: bright one- to three-bedroom apartments, and common spaces designed like a hotel lobby. There are 45 one-bedrooms, 80 two-bedrooms and 8 three-bedrooms, from 656 to 1,145 sq ft.
Its name comes from the sun, solaire in French, and its slogan says the rest: Un nouveau jour s'élève, a new day rises.
Common spaces that feel like home
The lobby greets you with a wall of preserved Nordic lichen, the moss caribou eat in the wild. It needs no water and stays green all year. Beyond it: booth seating and reading nooks, a coworking lounge, a shared kitchen and dining table, and a fitness room looking onto the garden.
Apartments full of light
Open kitchens with an island, wide windows and clean, modern finishes, in one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts.
A rooftop with a pool
The roof is the best room in the building: a pool and a spa, lounge chairs, and a pergola for shade. In the evening, residents gather around the outdoor gas fireplace and the barbecues.
Built for less energy, in 18 months
Solaris was designed to use about 27% less energy than the code minimum, with triple-glazed windows, extra roof insulation, heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation and LED lighting. Syscomax built it in 18 months, from October 2021 to May 2023, through the supply shortages that followed the pandemic.
On the old General Motors site
Solaris stands in the Faubourg Boisbriand, the neighbourhood that grew on the site of the General Motors plant where Camaros and Firebirds were built until 2002. Today the area has shops, restaurants, parks and new homes, all a short walk away.
