What if there is an emergency at night?

Call our emergency line at (866) 512-2724, 24/7, for a water leak, no heat, a fire alarm or anything that puts people at risk. If someone is in danger, a fire has started or you smell gas, call 911 first.

Most buildings have a shared laundry room, and some apartments have washer and dryer connections. For a broken machine, contact the supplier shown in the laundry room.

Leases in Québec

Can I leave before my lease ends?

In Québec you can transfer your lease (assignment, or cession de bail) or sublet your apartment. Send your request in writing; the landlord has 15 days to answer, and no answer means yes. A sublet can only be refused for a serious reason. Since 2024, if a landlord refuses a transfer without a serious reason, the lease ends on the date you gave. Write to info@helisis.ca and we'll explain the steps.

How do lease renewals work?

In Québec, leases renew automatically. For a 12-month lease, a landlord who wants to change the rent or another condition must send a notice 3 to 6 months before the lease ends; you then have one month to answer, and no answer means you accept. See our guide to Québec leases for details.

Information about Québec leases is general. For your rights and obligations, see the Tribunal administratif du logement.
